Ten Haaf Projects is pleased to announce “Alone in a strange town”, a solo exhibition by Lara Werth. Displayed are her large drawings on paper, created this year.
Lara Werth is not only a talented young artist, but also a professional Thai boxer. For her fights, she travels to many parts the world. Deeply influenced by her journeys, she incorporates these experiences in her drawings. While her drawings are always figurative, they include at the same time various motifs. Physical laws like perspectives, proportions and rules do not really exist.
The artist works on large format paper with acrylic marker, chalk, oil pencil and ink. Light and dark colours merge. The boundaries between painting and drawing blur: her work can be seen as painted drawings just as much as drawn paintings.
Her work is dystopian, imaginary and futuristic. Animals in forests stand next to cities with skyscrapers. We see flashes of the future next to images from our past. It is like a collage where chaos and order stand in harmony alongside one another. All these seemingly opposites are merged together in aesthetic and fabulous landscapes. Because there are so many different elements in her work, the artist invites you to linger, search and find. The artist creates a world where the impossible is possible and time travel exists. A world of construction, destruction, and beautiful nature. A fantastic universe you cannot forget.
