Ten Haaf Projects is pleased to announce “Ash Avenue”, a solo exhibition by Anders Goldfarb. The artist was born in New York in 1954, where hehas been actively taking photos for the last 50 years. He shoots black and white film, using an analogue camera. His passion for photography extends to processing and printing his own work. The title “Ash Avenue” originates from the avenue in Queens where he grew up.
With both parents having survived the Holocaust, their suffering led him on a quest to document the beauty and tragedy of everyday life. Consequently, Goldfarb mastered the art of capturing sentiment in photography. While observing his work, viewers get drawn into his emotional world. For ten years, Anders Goldfarb was an assistant for the American artist Saul Leiter, who influenced and inspired him in many ways. Goldfarb has worked in every aspect of the photographic medium; from portraiture on to street photography and landscapes. Through it he deals with the underlying themes of irony, mystery, decay, displacement and death. His subjects have led him to various places beyond New York, including Mexico, Berlin, Budapest, Prague and Krakow. The works displayed are a selection from the years 1978 – 1999.
In the words of Anders Goldfarb himself: “Ash Avenue is an autobiographical allegory alluding to memory, experience and fate”.
