Ten Haaf Projects is pleased to announce“Puppet Master”, an exhibition featuring works by two Dutch artists – photographic creations by Tommy Smits and drawings by Jim Mooijekind.
Tommy Smits (b. 1991) works primarily with photography, exploring all aspects of the medium. He photographs, prints, and creates sculptures with photographic elements. He constructs and deconstructs, continually striving to reinvent his artistic output. For this exhibition, Smits embarked on a quest to find used digital memory cards, collecting them from thrift stores and flea markets. To Smits, memory cards are real treasures, holding the memories of people’s pasts and lives once lived. He reconstructs the recovered images into new artworks, while also incorporating the physical memory cards themselves into his pieces.
Jim Mooijekind (b. 1992) is an artist with a degree from the Art Academy. Mostly influenced by cartoons and outsider art, he draws and paints in a dense, blunt, cryptic, and figurative style. In his work, he often uses an autobiographical avatar and a wide array of symbols and references to express his philosophical view on society. Mooijekind likes to explore epic yet mundane questions about the world we live in. His artistic output always contains an element of fun, reflecting his aversion to the pretentiousness of the art world.
