Exhibition dates:
May 6th – June 18th 2016

Ten Haaf Projects is pleased to announce “Surface and Position”, an exhibition by Mari Stoel. Creating allows Mari Stoel to deal with his inner struggle: finding a solution, escaping and going towards liberation. He demonstrates a playful approach towards obstructions and still maintains an aesthetic way of working. While all his work is well thought through, it is also spontaneous. Stoel wants his work to be alive, breathing and capable of going into any direction.

While Stoel’s past work was mostly figurative, in this series he tries to approach abstraction without losing figurative elements. The exhibition consists of paintings, collages and an installation. Stoel’s compositions can sometimes turn out rather clumsy, yet clearly poetic. His work shows the sediment of an incidental act. It’s like a situation that calls out an elementary way of making art, and then instantly leaves it behind. The result shows a balance between conceptual rigor and intuitive creation.
