“Uncle Tommy’s triple Framebow show”
by Tommy Smits

Opening:
Monday June 1st
Exhibition dates:
June 1st – July 29th, 2020

Ten Haaf Projects is pleased to announce “Uncle Tommy’s triple Framebow show”, an exhibition by Dutch artist Tommy Smits (b. 1991). A 2017 graduate from the Royal Academy in The Hague, Tommy Smits has a unique visual language and way of working.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, artist Tommy Smits wanted to construct a beacon of hope and positivity in these dark days. Consequently, he built a display in the windows of the gallery featuring three sculptures of rainbows. These “Framebows” frame forty-three photos collected and taken by Tommy Smits during his solitary confinement over recent months. The works consist of aesthetic, strange, sexy, gross and cute photographs, as well as a poem to uplift the community, perhaps even the whole world!

Smits primarily works with two media: photography and sculpture. First, he shoots his own portraits and landscapes. Next, he collects photos from the Internet, books and pamphlets found in second hand markets. The artist’s sculptural work then incorporates these photo images and objects that have been collected or found. Finally, the sculptures form a collage revealing his thoughts and desires.

Considering the current situation prohibits us from hosting a large reception, and the work is best seen from exterior the gallery, a real opening will not be held. However, we do offer fine drinks by appointment and visitors are welcome to enter the gallery by appointment until July 29th to view the works of Anders Goldfarb that are still on display. We hope to have our regular visiting hours again from September 2020.

We are also very pleased to announce that Ten Haaf Projects is participating with Tommy Smits at FAIR, presented by The New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA). This online cooperative acts as a benefit for NADA’s community of galleries and artists and runs until June 21st. For further details, visit thisisfair.org.
